Griff's Magic Theatre

About GriffAbout Griff

Spinning decks since 1969 age twelve! A lifetime collecting rare vinyl for his audience's delight.

Griff began his career as a child prodigy packing out the rooms above his parents shop with paying teenagers, before being taken on professionally by London promoter Terry Sampson to run a rare mobile discotheque in the provinces. Griff spent the next eight years filling dance-halls across the UK.

As the 1980's approached Griff's Magic Theatre became a pioneer of the Free Festival movement, providing the unique GMT experience at festivals across the UK, from Stonehenge and Glastonbury to the infamous Ribblehead festivals. Six thousand people turned up at the third Ribblehead festival and Griff was hauled in front of the High Court in London as ringleader to face charges of perpetrating an illegal gathering. Griff defended himself and secured a sweet victory when despite pressure from the landowners the Judge allowed him access to North Yorkshire between October and March for the rest of his life!

GMT has supported artists and performers like Deep Purple, New Model Army, Joolz, Desmond Dekker and the Aces, Dr Feelgood, Morbid Humour, Uriah Heep and Chumbawamba to name but a few as well as providing musical support to touring acts across the UK and Europe.

GMT has played at hundreds of birthdays and weddings big and small, provided intimate background music for gallery openings and corporate functions.

With long residencies at various venues in Bradford, Bierkeller, Palm Cove, Queens Hall, The Beehive, The Mill, The Royal Standard, Bibi's he has a dedicated Yorkshire following.

Since 1994 Griff's Magic Theatre has also been a long running popular radio show on Bradford Community Broadcasting 106.6FM
